Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus) Black and Green

Black and Green Poison Dart Frog (Dendrobates auratus) in a croton.

This Dendrobates auratus poison dart frog is much bigger than the previous ones we have seen. We frequently have the little red and blue ones (Oophaga pumilio) on the bases of our trees and every so often we get to see a cute little black and green guy but when we came across this giant we got excited. He didn’t even fit in our normal frog holding container. Barry placed him on one of our colorful crotons and the colors contrasted each other just enough to set him apart while making him look right at home.

These frogs live for up to 8 years so I am certain we will be seeing him again.
