What to Expect During Your Stay at 10 Degrees Above – Things to Do

Thank you for choosing to stay with us here in San Miguel de Matina at 10 Degrees Above the equator.

THINGS TO DO WHEN VISITING 10 DEGREES ABOVE

Relax. Write a book. Walk the farm. Take some photos. The days are your own while you are here. There are sloths, kinkajous and many birds in the trees. Unique fruit trees and starch plants are by the river and up the hill is the coffee, the view and a 1/2 mile long trail that winds through the forest. Please wear closed toed shoes on the trails. Our property is best suited for those who enjoy some adventure mixed in with your relaxation.

The spectacular Paquare river and its Class 3 & 4 rapids are less than 1/2 hour away. You must book a head of time. Let us know how we can help. Exploradores Outdoors will give you $10 off if you arrive in Siquirres in your own car.

Canoeing in the canals that lead to Tortuguero is close and a wonderful day trip. Captain Claudio wants to show you his place.

There are many things to do in San Miguel and the surrounding area. In fact, a local swimming hole in the Barbilla River and a spectacular drive along a mountain ridge are just behind us.

We can arrange for horseback rides up into the mountains.  Cost is $30 per person, trip time approximately 3 hours.

Downtown Limon has some interesting history & there is a restaurant which sits high above the city with a great view of the entire area & great food.

Cahuita National Park is less than 1.5 hours South.

During a tour of the property, you are welcome to pick any food that you want. We have lime trees, papaya, oranges, cassava, cacao, avocado, squash, bananas, aloe and many other things you can simply pick and eat if you so choose.

Shopping – San Miguel has a great little store with lots of stuff so if you need anything, with the exception of alcohol, they probably have it. Turn left out of the gate, walk past Bar San Miguel and after the school on the right hand side there is a small green building next to the Jehovah Witness Church. You can convert and get a coke! Chances are they don’t speak English but they show you a calculator with your total price.

 Things to consider while here

The dogs are Smoky, the husky and Kimba, the retriever. They normally have run of the farm so if you have allergies or just can’t stand their adorable and annoying little faces just let us know. We’ll keep them out of your way.

You may be more comfortable if you leave your shoes at the door. The terrain here can be messy and most people take off their shoes before entering a house.

The shower head has 3 temperature options, warm (all the way right), fresh out of the spring (middle position) and hot (left). The water is heated as it passes through the pipe so the water pressure has a direct impact on the temperature of the water.  We normally have great water pressure so if the shower isn’t as warm as you would like it simply lighten up the pressure.

We drink water straight from the tap. Our water source comes directly from a natural spring. Feel free to fill up before you travel to other parts of the country.

Please tell us when you would like breakfast and if you have any dietary restrictions or have favorites. In case say, we were planning eggs and you prefer banana, chocolate chip pancakes.  It’s all good with us.

We look forward to meeting you.

    Hello,
My husband and I are travelling in Costa Rica in Jan 2014 and would like to include your place in our itinerary. Would it be possible to stay Jan 22 for 3 nights? Sounds like your place could be a real learning experience:)

    Thanks,
    MaryLou

We will see you in January which is a great time to visit because a lot of our trees are blooming.
